As of today, the deadline for businesses to register has been pushed back indefinitely. It's still important to get ahead of this and prepare your business to register. We'll keep you posted when the new registration deadline is announced.

A2P-10DLC
is AT&T's response to rising consumer complaints around text-based spam.

Expected to go into effect on June 1st, 2021, other major cellular service providers like Sprint and Verizon are expected to soon follow suit.

In this article, I'm going to talk through A2P-10DLC, what it is, and how you can prepare for it.

What Are The New A2P-10DLC Regulations?

A2P refers to application-to-person messaging, which refers to a texting tool or platform like Hatch that businesses use to communicate with homeowners.

10DLC stands for 10-digit long code, which is a 10-digit phone number bought and owned by your business to be used to send and receive text messages.

In Hatch, your 10DLC is the area code and phone number that represents your workspace.

By June 1st, all businesses that use a tool or platform to communicate with consumers from a 10DLC number must register their business with all service providers.

Basically, you have to identify WHO you are and WHAT you're sending.

How Will This Affect My Business?

10DLC policies are a continuation of previous regulations around short-code services (think political campaigns and marketing messages).

This is actually a great thing for legitimate businesses that text with consumers.

As it stands now, text deliverability rates are dependent on congestion of activities with service providers.

Businesses with 10DLC will now have a reputation score. These scores determine priority when it comes to messaging.

With a fully registered and compliant business, you will receive a positive reputation score, which can actually BOOST your deliverability rate.

On the flip-side of this, businesses that aren't registered will receive negative reputation scores. This means your texts will hit a global spam filter, and never get received by their intended target.

So registering your business is extremely important.
