10DLC Compliance: FAQs

10DLC registration is now mandatory. All your FAQs answered here.

Why is Hatch asking me to fill out a form for 10DLC registration?

To comply with the new industry-wide regulations, all CSPs are required to register their customers’ 10-digit numbers with a national registry called The Campaign Registry. That means we (Hatch), as your CSP, need some basic information from you via this form

While the process is simple, there are important deadlines, fees, and consequences. Please review all of the information below!

What are the 2023 10DLC deadlines?

While you'll see July 5 and August 31 below, the registration process, which normally takes about a week, is currently taking 2-4 weeks due to the influx. So it's important to get your registration application submitted now to avoid disruptions in your campaigns. This is why we have set a deadline for July 3, which also accounts for the holiday.

  • By July 3: Get your information in to Hatch.
  • On July 5: All major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, etc.) will start throttling (reducing deliverability throughput rates for messages from unregistered 10DLC numbers.
  • On August 31: Carriers will block texts from unregistered numbers altogether.

For context: In March of 2022, all mobile carriers (like AT&T, Verizon, etc.) began to require that all 10DLC numbers be registered. Since then they have been gradually increasing penalties (higher fees, lower deliverability rates) for unregistered numbers.

What exactly does 10DLC registration mean?

10DLC stands for 10-digit long code—it's the number(s) you use for your Hatch account. 10DLC registration means that your number is registered through a third-party organization called The Campaign Registry (TCR) (They have an FAQ page as well).

TCR verifies that your business is legitimate, then assigns each number in its registry a trust score which carriers then use to prioritize text message delivery. In other words, the higher your trust score, the higher your delivery rates and throughput.

Registration requires a simple application with information about your business. There is also a one-time registration fee and a monthly campaign fee, but this is necessary if you want higher delivery, faster delivery, and higher engagement rates.

You also must adhere to CTIA's Business Text Messaging Best Practices maintain your registration.

How much does 10DLC registration cost?

10DLC registration costs vary depending on the type of business you have and the campaigns you’re running, and the fees are determined by TCR.  They include:

  • One-time setup fee:
    • Sole proprietors: $4
    • Low Volume Standard Brands: $4
    • Standard Brands: $44 (includes secondary vetting)
  • One-time A2P Campaign use case registration fee: $15
  • Monthly campaign fees
    • Regular campaigns: $10/month
    • Low-volume mixed campaigns $2/month
    • Political campaigns: $10/month
    • Charity campaigns: $3/month
    • Sole proprietor campaigns: $0.75/month
  • Per-message carrier fees: as mentioned, your mobile carrier charges fees for traffic, with lower fees for registered numbers.

  • All Hatch customers will get registered as Standard Brands with Regular Campaigns. Reach out to your Customer Success rep for more information on this.
  • These are the fees per The Campaign Registry at the time of publishing this post. Please view TCR's website as well as your mobile carrier's website for the most up-to-date fees.

How do I register for 10DLC?

In short, your campaign service provider (CSP) is the one who interfaces with TCR and your carrier to register your business. As your CSP,  we need you to fill out this form. It asks for:

  • Legal business name
  • Business address
  • Contact information
  • Industry
  • Website URL
  • Employee identification number (EIN) or Tax ID
  • Business type (LLC, sole proprietor, or corporation)
  • Company type (public vs. private)

We'll take care of everything else.

Please take a minute to submit your registration information to us as soon as possible  to ensure the highest success with your text messaging campaigns.

What happens if I don't register?

As mentioned above, your mobile carrier is going to start throttling (restricting) texts from unregistered numbers to your customers starting July 5, and eventually block those texts altogether on August 31.

If you don't register your number, your text messaging campaigns will not reach your customers. This is why registration is so important!

I have more questions...

This process is easy but we know it can be confusing with all the technical terms. Plus, processes, fees, and deadlines are going to vary according to different carriers and CSPs. If you ned any assistance or have any questions, we encourage you to reach out to your Hatch account manager—they will be happy to help.
